DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced Monday, October 2, 2023 that Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a male suspect from Indiana who was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded machine gun (handgun with auto switch) at a Naperville recreation facility. Jalen Littleton, 19, of the 3700 block of Towle Avenue, Hammond, Indiana, appeared at First Appearance Court Monday morning, October 2, 2023 charged with one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Machine Gun, a Class X Felony.

Saturday, September 30, 2023, at approximately 9:51 p.m., Naperville police officers on routine patrol at TopGolf on Odyssey Court, observed a gun in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard of a black Chevy Cruze. Allegedly, a short time later, Littleton and another individual returned to the vehicle, and Littleton entered the driver’s seat of his vehicle. At that time, Naperville police officers immediately activated their emergency lights and boxed in Littleton’s vehicle. Allegedly, when officers searched Littleton’s vehicle, they found a fully-loaded Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine, a laser sight and an auto switch that enables the weapon to fire fully automatic when engaged. Littleton, who does not possess a valid FOID or CCL, was taken into custody at that time.

“Public safety is the top priority of my office and the allegation that Mr. Littleton unlawfully possessed an extremely dangerous, fully-loaded gun capable of firing as a machine gun, at a family-friendly entertainment facility is outrageous. Allegations such as those against Mr. Littleton will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be fully prosecuted. Once again, the proactive efforts of the Naperville Police Department removed a dangerous weapon from the streets and in doing so, may have averted tragedy. I commend the Naperville Police Department for their ongoing commitment to public safety. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Alyssa Rabulinski and Michael Pingaj for their work in securing charges against Mr. Littleton.”

— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin

“This was another great example by these officers showing that this department will continue to do everything we can to keep this community safe. Removing firearms from those who cannot legally possess them will continue to be a priority here and I applaud the proactivity of our officers. I also want to thank DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his office for their continued support and collaboration with these incidents.”

— Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres

Littleton’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 16, 2023, for arraignment in front of Judge Brian Telander.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
